99 Grand Am engine dead

Hi i just took my engine to a mechanic and was told that my engine was dead and it would cost 2600 to rebiuld or like 3000 for a new one i was wondering if anyone had to get a new engine or rebuild one is better. Is it hard to rebuild an engine or can i do it myself?

If I were you, I would get a salvage yard replacement. It will be a help of alot cheaper than either of those option which seemed heavily inflated to me. Plus most salvage yards offer a warranty on there engines. So its not like you are blindly buying junk. Which engine do you have and I will run a search to see whats available in your area.

Re: 99 Grand Am engine dead

This place has a remanufacted unit and is pretty close to you. A little pricey but less than your quote at 1950.00

AAA Auto Parts USA-CA(Sun-Valley) E-mail 1-800-736-3727

Then there is this place that has a used engine but doesn't list the miles but it comes with a 90 day warranty and is pretty close. The engine is $850

Bells Auto Parts USA-CA(Sun-Valley) Request_Quote 1-818-983-1135 Request_Insurance_Quote

There is this place which is a little farther but the engine only has 67K and is $900

All Auto Parts Co. -- Gold Seal USA-CA(Fontana) Request_Quote 1-800-797-4595 Request_Insurance_Quote

Then there is this place that has the cheapest on I saw at 750.00 but is like 30 miles away.

Apple Auto Dismantling USA-CA(Wilmington) Request_Quote 1-562-436-6424 Request_Insurance_Quote

Good luck.

John

Re: 99 Grand Am engine dead

I have a question, what exactly is wrong with the motor inyour car?

For someone to just say, its blown and you need a new one is BS if you ask me.
For an 03' to be in that bad of shape, Id say you bought a lemon
