the money pit is screaming for more....hiss sound and tranny thump
Couple new problems, to add to the ever growing list.
I have an odd "hiss" sound from near my a/c controls. The sound is similiar to a tire losing air. It is constant, and does not go off when the air is on or off. I cant feel any air coming from anywhere, though. I opened the hood to see if I could hear it in the engine bay, I could not. When I'm driving slowly, and begin to accelerate, theres a VERY noticeable thump from (I think) the transmission. You can feel and hear the thump. Also, when I accelerate, the truck (97) is very shaky, the entire thing shakes pretty bad, including the steering wheel. Not sure if this is steering/suspension related, or what. Any tips on any of the newest batch of problems?

The hiss from your ac control is the vacuum line is off the control or the thing needs rebuilt which don't take to much if I remember on those models and run about $60. As for the other stuff?

Check from underneath the dash or pull the controls out and check behind them.
Just a vacuum line that is off.
