2nd gear gone AWOL

Was racing my 99 yukon for fun against my buddy's 96 Blazer (4.3L V6), when my engine revved way up and apparently went into neutral. I let off the gas without shifting from drive, and pressed back on the gas, and it kept moving like it should. But apparently my 2nd gear gave up and went AWOL during that race, and hasn't come back since. The truck shifts slightly hard from 1st to 3rd at about 20-23 miles per hour (cruising speed), or at about 30 (passing speed). Even putting the shifter in 2nd gear keeps the truck in 1st. I'm assuming a band or clutch plate went out. I did a fluid and filter change for shirts and gurgles to find nothing abnormal in the pan. Just your usual bit of dust from normal use (has about 102k miles on it). I haven't had it diagnosed, but my buddy said he would help me replace the tranny should it need it. I'm just here for what advice I can get and to keep everybody updated until it's fixed should somebody else have a similar problem. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Mike

Re: 2nd gear gone AWOL

Welcome to AF, get it scanned by a capable trans shop for solenoid operation, slippage errors and trans codes, before going into the unit.
