I searched the forum for the wiring diagram to connect the wires from the stock radio to a cd player. But the color of the wires dont match with what I got off the forum. My brother and his freinds tried to splice the wires but didnt know which wires matched up together and started to play around with the wires untill they got the cd player working. They got it to work but then they blew a fuse somehow. Is there anybody that could give me some advice as to intalling the cd player myself. Oh its a 1997 Explorer

Re: HELP w/ CD Player Installation
What exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to add an aftermarket cd player to the Explorer, and looking for which wire from the factory harness serves which function, or are you trying to add a CD changer to the factory deck?
If you're trying to fit an aftermarket deck to the factory wiring, send me a private message with an e-mail address for you that accept PDF attachments and I'll send you the diagrams. -Rod |

Re: HELP w/ CD Player Installation
My neighbor came today and looked at it. He said that the harness that hooks the stock amp to the stock radio, the small black harness, might not be getting any power. He said to just hook up the speakes straight to the radio. Will this work?

Re: HELP w/ CD Player Installation
That will work, as long as the stock speakers are the proper impedance (usually 4 ohms) for the aftermarket radio. I'm not positive, but I believe Ford uses 4 ohm speakers so I would not expect it to be an issue. If you have the Mach audio system with a subwoofer and tweeters though, you will not want to hook the subwoofer straight to the aftermarket deck, and you will want to make sure that the tweeters have capacitors installed on them.
If you have a multimeter, measure the resistance of the speakers. If they give a reading of something close to 4 ohms, you should be fine. -Rod |

Re: HELP w/ CD Player Installation
I just put in an after market radio in my 96 explorer sport. I matched up the wires and ended up with an extra blue w/ white strip wire. This goes to the amp. No sound would come out untill I twisted it in with the red wire to give power to the amp.
