Exhaust Ideas.

I just recently bought a 2004 blazer 4x4 about a week ago. I also have a 98 blazer 2x4 with a custom flowmaster exhaust system consisting of a 40 series one in dual out muffler run out the back into 3 1/2 inch dual chrome tips. Now this thing sounds great, i mean it really sounds mean. The problem is, it's just too loud for me on the inside of the vehicle. I want to put an exhaust system on my 2004 but i don't want it as loud as my 98.

I've been looking at this gibson exhaust and just wonderin if anybody has this and how they like it.

But if i don't get this i think i'm just gonna go with a flowmaster muffler one in one out and put a different tip exiting at the stock location.

Re: Exhaust Ideas.

Save some money and just get a muffler installed.

Re: Exhaust Ideas.

If you want the noise on the outside but not on the inside, you might want to consider dynomatting the interior... That way you can have the best of both worlds.

Re: Exhaust Ideas.

I agree, dynomat is a little pricy for me. I'm just gonna go with replacing the muffler (probably a flowmaster) and finding some kind of chrome tip exiting at the stock location. Thanx for the inputs.

Re: Exhaust Ideas.

Avoid the Flowmaster's, they sound like crap on a 4.L and are incredibley raspy and tinny PLUS they flow like crap so you won't get any performance benefit.

Re: Exhaust Ideas.

Nothing wrong with the FM's... Had one for a couple of years and enjoy the sound. To be fair though, no performance muffler is going to give much of a gain unless you change out the exaust system from headers to tail-pipe. Why? Because stock is 2-1/4 all the way down. So that's a big ass bottleneck for the system. So over all if you're going to change the muffler for anything but sound, change out everything else so that you actually see an improvement. My opinion anyway.

I agree. Also, in some of the bends, the actual diameter is well below 2 1/4.

Flowmasters have a better flow than stock, as well as, many of their competitors, just because there are a few out there with better flow doesn't warrant the statement that they flow like crap.

Re: Exhaust Ideas.

The flowmaster I have is pretty mellow until high rpms, it also makes it sound like a 350 at low rpms. (Im not sure exactly which one it it though)

Here is a link with charts and sound clips that might help you pick one out if your going to go with the flowmaster.......

Re: Exhaust Ideas.

i Personally like the sound of the flowmaster on the 4.3, but i guess everybody has their own opinions on the sound they prefer best. Put the cold ait intake on today, that did make a difference. Now just got to get the exhaust flowin better.
