Re: 2000 (S-10) Blazer Radiator removal instructions please ?

Step 1: Remove the bolts holding on the fan shroud.
Step 2: Remove air filter and box.
Step 3: You should now be able to remove the top of the fan shroud. You will will then have access to the radiator.
Step 4: Open the radiator cap to relieve any built up pressure in the system.
Step 5: Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses as well as overflow tank hose.
Step 6: You will now need to remove the oil cooler and transmission cooler lines if your vehicle is equipped with them. I don't remember what size they are but you can use a wrench on them with no problems.
Step 7: Once all the lines are removed, you should be able to simply lift up on this radiator. You will just need to make sure that nothing is still hooked up or obstructing your removal process.

I wrote these off the top of my head since I changed my radiator a few months ago. Keep lots of kitty litter around to soak up all the fluid that are going to come flying out and what ever you do DO NOT START even turn the key over to turn on the fuel pump. It will start the priming process for the oil and transmission fluid and they will spill everywhere.

Re: 2000 (S-10) Blazer Radiator removal instructions please ?

i did one to about a month ago. it took me about 45 min to do it. Its very easy. like Cloud Strife said. u deff want to have some absorbent ready. and take your time taking out and putting in the new one. It doesnt take much to nick up a new rad. ESP on the can fan clutch. check all you fluid levels to once your done and top off whats needed

I found by taking the tranny lines of first made it easier to get the bottom rad hose. My hose clamp was spun around

And make sure you use new clean fittings for the oil and tranny lines

Also this would be an ideal time to flush out your heater core and block as well with one of those PRESTONE $4 kits, don't forget to install a NEW Thermostat and new STANT radiator cap too... You'll be good to go then.

My transmission and oil cooler lines on my 98 Blazer were held in with little stainless steel clips?

Re: 2000 (S-10) Blazer Radiator removal instructions please ?

i'll be doing this for a "girl" friend and i have told her we need to flush it very well ( i flushed my car over two days to be good enough for me ) and i also told her new thermostat and you know her reply " why do i need one of them? " of course i just laughed. if i get to do it i will do it right. she is contemplating me doing it or paying a place $60.00 an hour to do it. thanks for the info.

Unless (I Don't think so) her 99 is different, The cooler lines are held in with a small three sided stainless steel clip on each line behind a plastic retainer cover, Don't loose the clips............. Use a very small screwdriver to remove them. Don't try to unscrew the lines from the radiator or your going to be in trouble.

I removed mine from the radiator no problems at all. But if he is replacing the whole thing, he is gonna have to unscrew the lines.

Once the clips are out the line pulls right out, watch for lil donut gaskets that stay in the radiator part of the cooler lines.

Wait a minute - a new one is $160 so how much to fix the old one and why bother! Just a thought to save future problems - unless you want to see her again that is..
