Your car sounds like that because of connecting rod bearings that did not get enough oil at some point. Now you need a new engine.

The engine was rebulilt about 2,000 miles ago and sounded like that before and after the rebuild. SO wouldnt the rebuild have taken care of that?

not if the rod bearings weren't replaced. Also, if the crankshaft is outta tolerance and it wasn't machined, and had oversized bearings installed, it would knock too. Also, a bent connecting rod would sound the same.

If I keep driving it without buying a new engine will it cause any harm to the engine? If so what would it do?

No, continueing to drive and additional harm to that engine will not matter. Don't leave home without good walking shoes and a canteen! Get a tow strap if you don't have towing insurance.

Re: Why does my car sound like this? (VIDEO)

I didn't watch or listen to the video; too much clicking, registering, etc. that I have no time for - also some of the videos look too much like myspace type of nonsense.
Anyway, if the noise is a knocking at 1/2 crankshaft speed (like 350 or 400 knocks per minute at idle), it could very well be a cracked piston, if the pistons were re-used in the rebuild. I just found chunks of piston skirt in my oil pan after 180,000 miles. Drop the pan and check before you do any more-involved diagnosis. If that's what it is, same prognosis: you need anew engine.

I dont believe its the pistons because those were replaced when the engine was rebuilt. The rod bearings were also replaced so is there anything else that could cause this problem such as a sensor or something?

Re: Why does my car sound like this? (VIDEO)

When the car is fully warmed up and hot, is the noise still there? It almost sounds like CSK aka "piston slap". One of my geo's has piston slap, and I have been told that are cars are prone to having it. If the noise is still there when fully hot, then it's something else.

You may want to try and locate where the noise is coming from. Is it coming from the bottom or top of the engine? Check to make sure you don't have and exhaust leak too.

If it's a rebuild, you should have a warranty on it.

Loose torque-converter bolts cause a pretty loud noise that can be mistaken for rod knock. Do you have an auto trans?

The car sounds like this at all times, even when it is warm. To answer the other question my car has a manual transmission not an automatic.

Re: Why does my car sound like this? (VIDEO)

Again, I haven't listened to it, but if it is a knocking, what is the frequency; that is, how many knocks per minute at idle? If it is at half crankshaft speed, it could be a bad lifter, or a cracked piston, or... (other causes?). Is it possible that in the rebuild the bores weren't done right, leading to piston slap all the time, or a cracked skirt? Just wondering.
Be careful trying to say where the noise is coming from. I was convinced by the screwdriver-handle method that I had a lifter problem - the noise was that intense off the cam cover, and I could feel the knocking in the screwdriver. But it turned out to be a cracked piston skirt.

Re: Why does my car sound like this? (VIDEO)

does anyone think this could be caused by low oil pressure?
