1998 S10 Problems

I am writing this for my husband as he is out working on Blazer--bear with me. Blazer won't start. It has spark and is getting gas. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hard to start cold.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure.
Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure.
If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel.
Do not leave home without it.
Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more.
And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak.
Post back fuel pressure readings.

Re: 1998 S10 Problems

Is it cranking over OK - starter turns the engine but no start?
If yes check the fuses in the box underhood - eng and 2 ecm ones.
As MT said check fuel pressure. If OK on to next and key on engine off is 60 psi min for Blazers and after 2 sec pump quits and should hold pressure close to that.
Has spark but won't start - put a new cap and rotor on and test again - cap can be bad internally so a quick test and yes, it happens.
Crank sensor can be bad and that keys coil to fire on correct timing ($60 part). Post back. Next is ign module at $80.

Forgot to add. The vehicle started just fine; moved it to the backyard; washed it; washed the engine also--then it wouldn't start. ????? This was on Monday.

Spray some WD-40 in the distributor cap and dry it good?

Now you tell us the hole story.
I think you have a drowned engine.
Did you spray it with engine hot or cold?
If sprayed hot youy may have cracked cap and rotor.
First thing would be to pull dist cap and check for water in it.
If so dry it out and look for cracks.
If no cracks put cap back on and try it.
You may need to give the hole thing some dry out time to.
Good Luck

Re: 1998 S10 Problems

Funny? I do that routinely. I never have problems with my vehicles washing the engine and bay.

Then again, I routinely have trouble with other people's vehciles after washing the engines. I use it as a diagnositc aid to find weak ignition components. Works great.

I hate working on filthy engines.

I'm thinking that you, too, found a weak/poorly sealed ignition component(s).

Yep sounds like they found something under the hood that just quite like a duck's back when they was doing the wash job.

Re: 1998 S10 Problems

Could be anything under there.

When you wash an engine you cover everything electrical with plastic grocery bags.

He has moisture in there somewhere and god knows what has failed.

Re: 1998 S10 Problems

Been washing this engine since I got it. This vehicle looks brand new (other than the 260,000 miles). Distributor ok--. Thanks for all your suggestions.
