I've bought it it's mine, I have a 1988 Honda CRX Hf. It's white with blue int., and the stock intake "tube" has got to be the smallest I've ever seen. It doesn't say whether it's a 1.6 or 1.5 on the valve cover unfortunetly, but just from looking at it I know it is definitly a d-series sohc. Where's the block stamp located out of curiousity? Is it in a relativly easy place to see? or will I have to get down and dirty to find it? If anyones got any picturesof the few diff d-series motors I can tell which one it is just by identifying it, if you could help me out with any of that it'd be greatly appreciated. thank you

Re: bought it yesterday!!!
HF's are the shit, especially your 88. I know people bitch about how their slow as f*k, but i wanna save gas damn it! Of course there slow, its because they were designed that way, so they can save gas. Theres two things i miss about my old 89 std compared to my 91 rex si, lightweight chassis and better gas mileage... Good luck with it, post pics.

Re: bought it yesterday!!!
i've actually already started searching for a motor swap for the car, I want a H22 >_< but It's to damn expensive as of now, considering the cheapest h22 motor, tranny ecu, motor mounts (hasport), and a wiring harness conversion, bot that all adds up to approx 4-6 grand. I've also been looking into B-series, as in the b16 or the b20, v-tec heads of course, but I was wondering what ecu I would have to run? I found this Performance Engine, VTEC, 1st Gen, 160hp, Engine + Cable Type Transmission + ECU
B16A11.64$1450 (combo) would i have to buy a wiring harness conversion or would the stock one work? and am I gonna have to get special axles to get all this to work or what? Help me out guys |

Re: bought it yesterday!!!
B20 Doesent Have Vtec But It Does Once You Put A B16 Head Or Any Dohc Vtec Head On It Then You Have B20vtec Or Crvtec. Just To Let You Know This Setup Makes More Power Then The Stock Dohc Vtec Motors. Besides The Type R Motor B18c5

Re: bought it yesterday!!!
if you get the b16 swap you will need axles and a ecu jumper harness too. check the sig.
2poor2tune-you can make more power out of a ls/vtec or b20/vtec than a stock itr. you just need to replace the rods, pistons, rod bolts, crank, a few other misc. things, but it is possible.

Re: bought it yesterday!!!
If i were you and if i was on a tight budget, I would swap a B20 into your HF. B20s can be had for cheap and the torque would really pull in your light ass car. Just run it OBD0 use a DA dizzy, intake, and pr4 ecu like this guy did.
http://www.ef-honda.com/ben/EFB20swap.php Also in the future, when you feel you have the cash, you could invest in adding a vtec head and build a B20/vtec. Go whichever route you want but i think the B20 (or maybe even a B18a for that matter) has a lot of potential.

Re: bought it yesterday!!!
youll also have to buy shift linkage, motor mounts, ecu and jumper, and wire up a vtec harness. id go b20 cuz they just have the torque that the b16s lack. once you add a vtec head and do some internal work youre ready for turbo or whatever and youll be zoomin by. gotta love havin the lightest honda frame

Re: bought it yesterday!!!
foosh is right. the b20 does have all the torque that the b16 lacks. it is a good sart. and definitly a good choice for a vtec head.

Re: bought it yesterday!!!
oh yeah guys I forgot to mention it's a jdm motor, trans, and ecu. Not a clue honestly if the fact that it's Jdm makes it a different swap than a Usdm? will the computer read things wrong or think I have a kmh speedo so on and so forth?
