oil pan gasket

I have a 1992 full size bronco that needs the oil pan gasket replaced.s this an easy task, what all is involved in doing this. I am not sure if I just loosen the bolts around it will the pan drop enough to get the gasket on, clean the old off, has anything to come off the transmission

Re: oil pan gasket

Not sure if you would call it easy. But you will have to take bolts all the way out. Nothing should have to be unhooked from the tranny. You might have to unbolt engine from motor mounts, and unbolt exhaust system. Then jack motor up as far as you can then set it down on block so you can have enough room to drop pan all the way. Oil pump may not allow for you to pull pan all the way out. If that is the case you have to unbolt pump and let it fall into pan. Clean old gasket off. Then use small zip ties to hold gasket in place. I used a about four. in different holes. Then you need to reinstall oil pump. Make sure drive rod goes up into the correct spot. Reinstall pan bolts the finish up. I know it sounds rough but that is what i had to do on my f-250 with a 460 in it. You might get lucky and be able to get pan off with dropping pump.

Re: oil pan gasket

More work than a ford is worth.
the ford oval is an appropiate symbol because they actually circled the problem!
