Dual-Zone Climate Control Light Repair

How hard is it to repair the light that illuminates the dual-zone climate control for the passenger? Mine went out today.

Re: Dual-Zone Climate Control Light Repair

I haven't had to change the bulbs in my '99 yet (knock on wood). I did have this problem with my '93. I removed the "control box" and took it apart. The bulbs in it were tiny and I believe were difficult to replace. Because of this I pulled a used unit from the junkyard (about $5-10); they're still working over a year later. As far as a newer vehicle, I'm not really sure, hopefully by now they've realized that these have gotta be made easier to replace! From what I've seen though, the unit should come out relatively easy...after that I have no clue! GOOD LUCK

Re: Dual-Zone Climate Control Light Repair

Most of the auxiliary/option control switches are illuminated with an internal lamp which cannot be replaced easily. I have found the electrically correct (8098) lamps. but the factory lamps have a light blue translucent coating to diffuse the light and filter it to blue color. I have a similar situation in the rear AC control and rear wiper controls of a van. The lamp leads are crimped/soldered in place, so they are not made to be replaced separately from the entire switch. It takes a bit of effort to even disassemble the switch to gain access to the lamp.

I pray this isn't the case for me. I'm gonna call the dealership and get a price from them. I know it's gonna be ugly but I just want to get my options on the table.

Re: Dual-Zone Climate Control Light Repair

I'll try getting into it and see how far I go without messing anything up.. although I will most likely leave it alone since it doesnt bother me much because its not like I use it much or at all, really.

Re: Dual-Zone Climate Control Light Repair

I had the same problem... on the exact same side. I took it apart and tried to replace the light with an LED and it didnt work. I called the dealer and they said i can get a new assembly all together, or live with it. A new assembly from the dealer was close to $200. I got one from rockauto.com for about 110 including shipping. They are probably your best bet. Well good luck

Re: Dual-Zone Climate Control Light Repair

Any other assemblys compatible with a '00 SS? I've seen some other heat a/c units that I like a lot more than mine in other vehicles.

Re: Dual-Zone Climate Control Light Repair

You might try a junkyard. I'd say some regular montes might have a similar setup. That'd be WAY cheaper, than getting one from the dealer. If no luck there, try looking on ebay.

OMG! That price is crazy.

Another question, would a different unit fit into my car and work. Something along the lines of one of the ones that have the digital screen in them. Such as the one seen here:

That's a 2000 Corvette.
