not starting??

My girlfriends car starts sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. We gave it a boost and it didn't start right away, I tapped on the starter and it didn't start right away. It doesn't happen all the time. It didn't start today for twenty minutes, she put it in park to neutral several times for roughly twenty minutes and it started. Battery seems ok but... Any response would be helpful, thanks.

Re: not starting??

When the car does start, does it start very roughly (like it's struggling to start up) or does it start up like normal?

Try checking the distributor cap & rotor for signs of wear. Also, check to see that the fuel pump is turning on (you can hear it when you turn on the ignition). Not quite sure is these will solve the problem, but it's a good place to start.

Re: not starting??

Car starts just fine when it starts, thought of the fuel pump but unsure. I'll check the distributor and see whats going on with that. Probably pick up a new battery and see if that solves it, original battery. Thanks for the reply.
