Alero shifter

Hi all I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. I need to figure out how to replace the shift knob. It is a automatic. Also kinda on the same topic does anyone know if the make a service repair manual for the Alero or what car would be equivalent? Thanks

Re: Alero shifter

On the back side of the shift knob is a staple clip. Pry it out and the knob will come off. Take the shifter to the lowest drive position and you'll see it easier.

The best service manual for the Alero is the one from Helm, Inc. It is the GM version. Expensive but worth it. The Haynes and Chilton, if available are not good enough.

Re: Alero shifter

Thank you for the help. Now does anyone know where I can buy a replacement knob? The ones that I found at the local parts stores mostly dont have the button to put it in gear

Re: Alero shifter

Junkyard would be my first place to look, if you want stock.
