nEED HELP ASAP PLEASE

Hey guys this friday i got in a argument with my girl and i was driving so i was so mad i hit my dash on my trans am. Well as soon as that happened my cd player came out saying mechanical error, and my airbag light went on, my abs light, low coolant light, and trip odometer stopped working, well i went camping the next day and when i almost got there i noticed my battery was almost dead, i didn't think 2 much cause i thought i just messed up the gauge when i punched the dash, well yesterday on my way back it dies on me and it's the altenator, well i get stuck in this fucken small town with no pepboys or autozone. Well i remove the altenator and come home with my sister and i couldn't find one that matched? It seems someone modified the altenator cause it doesn't have a voltage regulator on it. it's completely gone and it had a green wire coming out of it. but all the altenators i looked at don't have the wire? Now my question is how far can i make it without my altenator, I need to make it atleast 65 miles for AAA to pick it up. So can i make it 65 miles with just my battery? I have a optoma battery?

Most batteries have a rating on the sticker for their no charge run time, it's ussually about 120 minutes.

It's not that they won't pick me up it's that i only can get towed for 100 miles after that it comes out to 4 dollars a mile.

Re: nEED HELP ASAP PLEASE

Try driving it the rest of the way so it can get towed. I can't believe you're 100 miles from the nearest garage.

Re: nEED HELP ASAP PLEASE

If you brought the battery home with you charge it overnight. A fully charged battery running the ecm, fuel pump, injectors etc. should take you 100 miles or so as long as you don't use the radio, ac, lights, things like that. Do it during the daylight hours. Good luck.

Re: nEED HELP ASAP PLEASE

Ha this reminds me of a story my dad told me. The alternator died in his old camaro and he had to get home... it was night and he didn't want the battery to do so he drove home without his lights on, and when they he saw a car coming he would turn them on.

Of course this was like in the 70s and in the sticks of pennsylvania so pratically noone else was on the road.

Re: nEED HELP ASAP PLEASE

What? I thought batteries with no re-charge would only go for a few minutes or so.
If they last a long as the other people say they would, just buy 2-3 batteries and swap one out when the other one dies. Batteries are only $30 or so, compared to a towing fee.

lol yeah sorry but now adays they charge a buttload for batteries. It costs me like 80 bucks everytime i need one for my boat ... sidenote - dropping a battery on a cement floor from 7 feet up sucks!

Re: nEED HELP ASAP PLEASE

Well, the last battery I bought was for my truck, not the Z. I guess its a different type and wouldn't be as expensive.

The run time is determined in testing for the application vehicle (in stock form) with the lights on.
