Need Info on Third Gens

Yeah, me, with everything I've done to third gens I STILL don't know enough. Since my money situation got worse, I wanted another Iroc-Z or a GTA. Were there any manual 305s made with 4 wheel disc brakes?

Re: Need Info on Third Gens

There were a few 305 tpi z28s that had 5 speeds and disc brakes, but how many and what years I'm not sure. I know that in '92 the 305 5 speeds ran right with the L98's of the same year, so that would be the one I'd recommend.

Re: Need Info on Third Gens

I really want a 1LE packaged camaro but they must be expensive. I found one on ebay but it has no miles and they want 15k for it.

Re: Need Info on Third Gens

the 5 speed tranny's in the 3rd gens suck, they can't handel any power. 3rd gear likes to go out on them.

Re: Need Info on Third Gens

there were not many 5 spd 3rd gens made and not many of those had four wheel discs. i think you have better luck finding four wheel discs on auto equiped third gens, and i think a lot of GTA's had them. if u want a 1le, you can't really get into one for less then 10 grand. a better alternative would be a B4C camaro.

B4C is automatic isn't it?

Why were the T5s so bad?

Re: Need Info on Third Gens

no, same option as the 1le; 305TPI/5spd or 350TPI/auto
t5's can only handle a max of 300ft lbs. i was making about that in my iroc and i never had a problem other than i had trouble going into reverse (not all the time, just on occasion)

Sounds like a good idea. I thought cops had to have the automatic. Were they allowed to use that model?

Re: Need Info on Third Gens

the t5 did not come in a 350 just a 305 because the 350 would tear it appart.

Re: Need Info on Third Gens

it could not handle the torque. the 305tpi was making 255 ft lbs in 1991 and 285 ft lbs in 1992. the 350 made 345 ft lbs.

Re: Need Info on Third Gens

certain models of the t-5 were better than others. If you find one with the notation W/C which stands for world class i think those are the good ones. Its hard to know if a car has it without looking at the actual trans. Any Z28 camaro with have 4 wheel disc as long as it has the J65 prod code option which i think most of the z28's did. 305 or 350 doesnt matter. those were some decent motors...the tpi 305's that is.

It's the fastest car I've ever driven, good acceleration, quiet rumble and then a serious WOT. I really want a manual. If they're that bad though...sheesh. I really do like how they look too. I saw an Iroc at Riverhead Raceway, doing the spectator drags around the oval.
