I have recently aqquired this kit and I have started decaling it but it is so difficult. I need help on how to get certain decals on that go over bumps on the body. Like the silver part how it goes over the what is a light on the roof, I cannot get it on right with warm water it just causes a complete mishap when placed on there. I also tried to put the decal on that goes around the windsheild framing but there is a bump there for the antenna and it does not go well either, plus the decals around the front intake grill. Please help me on this as I paid a good deal of money for it and I really wanna do it right. Thank you.

I suggest doing a forum search on subjects like decal placement and using microset and microsol, as well as heat to get decals to conform, you'll be amazed and the variety of decal techniques as well as types of decals available.

Is your kit the original release of the 787 or is it the more recent re-release of the kit?
The more recent release uses Cartograf decals which you are able to use solvents with, the older release the decals are more sensitive to solvents.

Those projections aren't meant to be covered with a decal, because they stick out too sharply. Once you placed the decal in the right location, use a sharp hobby knife and make an X-shaped cut to let the base of antenna escape. After the decal is dry, touch up the antenna base.

The model I have is the old one. I can never seem to find the one with cartograph decals, I wish I could but so far no luck.

You may be able to get a set of the Cartograf decals from Tamiya, visit Tamiya.com to locate the distributor closest to you and they should be able to help you obtain the replacement decals from Cartograf.

You could also paint these colors instead of using the decal. After I built my 787B, I really, really wished that I had painted instead of using the decals. The decals are as good as they get, but it doesn't make them easy. If you hadn't already cut them up, I'd've suggested taking the decal sheet to Kinkos and copying them to make a templet to mask the orange off, and spray the green and silver on. It would make this awesome livery 100x easier to replicate, and you wouldn't even have to worry too much about a step at the color separation, because with some careful polishing, and the white "stitching" no one would ever tell. Tamiya Park Green is perfect (at least, a perfect match for the decals, no coincidence there).
