columbus ohio swaps?
anyone know of any good places to get engine swaps done in columbus ohio? mine is about on its last leg and i was thinking of going to a more powerful engine rather than buying another car.
what would be a good, relatively cheap swap that could get me some more go power? thanks all who reply. |

Re: columbus ohio swaps?
hey man i just found a good place that works on imports called gecko motorsports and its on high st right by campus. the owner has had several crx's and knows a good bit. theyre pretty reasonable i got my strut bars put in and fenders rolled for 50 bucks. im takin my car in tomorrow to get the passenger bearing replaced cuz its baaaad. other than that place i can only think of lindsay acura but the dealer is gonna charge out the ass. i just kno a guy that works there hehe there used to be a place on bethel but i doubt they are open anymore. theres nothin around here lol
if youre lookin for a cheap swap go with a dohc zc or get a vtec one. they bolt in and are a lot cheaper than b-series. i found a d16z6 bottom end out at picknpull the other day, you could just add a z6 or y8 head for a mini-me swap. where are you at around columbus i never see any other green rexs around?

Re: columbus ohio swaps?
ive actually got a 91 dx hatch. im on the north side by sawmill and 270. definately wouldnt go to a dealer for this, then i would be better off with a new car. just seeing if it can be done for a reasonable amount. wouldnt get that at any dealership for sure. hoping to find someone whos actually done this type of thing before and knows exactly whats needed and how long it would take them ahead of time. ill check out gecko though and see what they say there, thanks for the reply.

Re: columbus ohio swaps?
yeah no prob..you really should just look into doing it yourself, its not that hard and youll save lots of cash. i had my d16 out in just a few hours and if you go with a zc itll drop right in. do a little research on here thru the search and find out what all you need for simple swaps then get everything together and just have a weekend set aside to do it.

as for cars to look for try to find 1999 EX civics cuz they have the d16y8 sohc vtec. could also use jdm d15b vtec head or d16z6 head. do some research theres tons of stuff you can do with mini me swaps. http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1508680 look under d-series and theres tons of info, what parts you need to buy, how to do it, etc. theres even info on zc swaps, ive got this link saved cuz its one of the most useful ones ive found so far

Re: columbus ohio swaps?
+1 for do it yourself. i swapped my crx when all i could do was change oil. the swap is simple. the wiring is another story. if you dont feel comfortible with that there are websites you could send it to to get it done and returened to you for a plug and play harness. this last swap i did was a b16 into my 4 door and i was able to do that all myself. i mean everything so you and a couple friends could do it for sure. just rea read read all over the internet to find ouit about this stuff.

Re: columbus ohio swaps?
yeah im sitting here observing thefooshmeister telling dude to do the swap himself but he cant remove 4 bolts to install a strut bar which is like a 10min job? or fenders which is like 8 mins each side..i definately get a sense of a job being well done when i do things myself...go online..do uh lil research and try doing the bearing urself..u might surprise urself with how easy it really is

Re: columbus ohio swaps?
look at you pathetic bastards bashin me for havin someone put in my strut bars..WTF get a life. i did my whole swap by myself and have done everything else on the car myself. of course i kno it feels good to work on the car but im fuckin sick of shit goin wrong and i dont have the time to mess with it. i had them put them in cuz i also got my timing done and since the car was there might as well have someone else do it. he wanted to kno a
place around me that was a good shop so what the hell is the problem with lendin some info. anyways tahiti, you really dont need a lot of tools. if youve got a breaker bar, some ratchets, and an autozone around you youll be in good shape. i rented half the equipment from there for free. theres gotta be someone you kno with a cherry picker around you. i got lucky and my neighbor down the street had one. talked to the shop around here tho and theyre wantin at least a grand to do it..definately not worth it. if you get the parts together and have it ready to go you can do it in a weekend with some friends and a few beers.

Re: columbus ohio swaps?
yeahh ok..first of all they werent the 10.00 cheapo ones from ebay. i couldve easily done the front but the rear one looked like a pain in the ass and was. youre still talkin down to me like i kno nothin just because i paid someone to put somethin in while they were already workin on my car and thats what is pathetic. i gave tahiti advice that helped him out so what does it matter what i do with my time and money? does that make me any less of a tuner?? sorry for bein a bitch about it but cmon man im in college and dont have a garage or driveway for that matter like at my parents house to work on my car.
