'93 Town Car

My father-in-law's town car has a problem. It appears as if something in the power lock mechanism has come off the right rear door. The door is locked, and will not open from neither the inside or outside. Consequently, the door pannel cannot be removed to gain access to the inside of the door, so repairs can be made. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the door open? With the window down, can I fashion something to pop the lock? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

if you can slide a hanger down the window from inside the car with the window down, you should be able to go down far enough to hook the lock mechanism and pull it up to open the door. where the motor and the lock itself meet up is a loop holl where the lock hooks into the motor itself. if you can get a hold of that with a hanger and pull it up, you should be able to open the door.

don't know what the guts of the inside of a camery's door looks like. sorry steve

Thank's Sean.
It's sounds like trying to drop a thread into a needle hole, but I'll give anything a try. That's probably what a dealer would do @ $75.00 / hr.

yeah i know thats probably the only way to get that lock up. if there was only someway you can like pry the top-middle portion of the door panel...hmm i think all the 90s town cars had those handles attached the to upper portion of the door panels, you know what you grab to close the doors......why don't you try unscrewing that (pretty sure there is one screw on each end of the handle)? that will loosen the door panel up somewhat and might allow you to be able to pull back the top portion of the door panel somewhat so you can get a better feel of where the lock is. hopefully you'll find some luck with that...

Sean:
Unfortunately I don't have the car in front of me. My father-in-law lives about 30 miles away from me, and I don't get that way to often. I'll keep all of your ideas in mind and take a wack at it when he's either at my place or I'm there. I'm just afraid of breaking some plastic gizmo off the panel back, by prying blindly, and then not having the panel go back on and be loose.
What I need is a drawing or picture from a factory body book as to where everything is located within the door.
I do appreciate the time you've taken to help me out.

ASK, AND THOU SHALL RECEIVE !!!!!!!
Now that's service. Thanks to all that responded. Don't know if I'll get the door open, but at least I know what I'm fishing for and where it's located.
