Well fellas she walked.

I'm 95% sure last night my motor crankwalked. Starting around 8pm the clutch started feeling a little different and engaged in different spots, it wasn't really noticable, but I figured I would just do some clutch fluid maintenance stuff in a few days, no biggie. I'm leaving wal-mart with my gf in the car, as I make the left turn the clutch falls down without me even pushing it. Of course we all know exactly what went through my mind. I dragged it back up and starting pumping it. If there was a leak in the system I thought i could pump pressure back into it. After I stopped doing that it still felt weird driving home. I pull into my apartment complex and make a few hard right turns. The car is fine. I knew I had to do it so I made a hard left turn. Immediately the clutch is at the floor. I pull into a spot and try to put it in reverse. The engagement point is literally a centimeter off the floor. It just gets lower and lower. Now while the car is on, it won't go into gear. I got out a flashlight and checked the master and slave cylinder. They look fine, no leaks, and no fluid by the firewall. I'll have to check the slave cylinder again with some daylight, but it doesn't appear that's the problem. I go to school everyday from 9am to 9pm so finding time to be 100% sure it walked is going to be a problem. I don't know when I'll have time to actually check crank endplay. I'll see if it's bad enough that I can actually make the crank pulley wobble when I get some time. There is always the chance it is something else, and I will confirm crankwalk 100% before I do anything else.

Honestly, I'm pretty depressed about the whole thing. There was a lot of money, time, sweat, and blood in this car. I'm going over my options right now. Right now it looks like I will have to part the car out and buy a daily driver, just something from point A to B. I don't see any point to putting a 6bolt in this car. I really do love my DSM, but putting a 6bolt in a FWD is just too much effort to still spin through the gears. Once I save up a little bit I will buy a 1g AWD and make it a full drag car. Since I will have a daily this will be a weekend only 10 second build. Look for ALOT of parts going on sale soon. They will be cheap because I really just need to buy a commuter car ASAP. I don't know how long my gf will be happy about taking me to school and back everyday. This really could not have come at a worse time. I am taking extremely difficult courses, teaching a little, and preparing for the MCAT.

I am a DSM'er at heart and will always be. I may not have one for a while, but I will still be actively involved in the community and looking for a 1g. I knew this was a risk when modding a 7bolt, but it still sucks for me right now. When it comes down to it, it's still just a bunch of metal, and I still have the truly important things, so things could be worse. Wish me luck.

Re: Well fellas she walked.

Welcome to the club. I know what its like since I'm in the exact same place minus the GF to drive me to school. You should be able to grab the pully and move the crank back and forth and feel a clunk.

Now that is the mentality that I like people to have. It really sucks what happened, but like you said things could be worse.

Good luck with the car.

Re: Well fellas she walked.

Yeah my car is still fucked up now. I'm waiting on advanced auto to get me a damn Haines manual and its been a week now. Crunchy, good luck with your situation. Sounds like you got a plan and it sounds pretty good. When I bought my beater it felt great knowing I can do w/e I want to my dsm and not worry about daily driving it. Good luck and be sure to keep us updated.

I've noticed that alot lately too. None of the regulars have cars that run, or at least run well, and some of them don't even have DSM's anymore. Kevin doesn't have one (although I still see him as a DSMer), Thor your's doesnt' run, my 2 don't run, Brian's doesn't run, crunchy's walked, Scott's walked, and everyone else seems to be having some other sort of problem.

It think Travis and David are the only 2 that I can think of right now that actually have running cars.

EDIT: And Killer, his runs too! Can't forget about him.

Yeah, people used to make fun of me for having a dsm that will break down all the time. I used to stand up for my cars reliability but, latly I just sorta go along with it lol. But, hey crunchy got crankwalk not like theres a whole lot you can do to prevent that one. But crunchy I like your idea with going with a 1g. If I had to do it over again instead of buying my 2g for 6,500, I would of bought a 1g for 2,000 then put 4,000 into it. If only I knew better.

Haha... Yup, mine's running fine. Needs some maintence, but it's still going strong. I think Travis is without a UDP right now. I'm POSITIVE he'll correct me though.

And that sucks with the whole situation. Sorry to hear that.

Re: Well fellas she walked.

Mine ran strong up until about a week ago. But that's just because I took it apart on my own, not because I needed to.

BTW: I would love the exhaust and downpipe. That would be one more step towards turbo time.
