Re: Coolant temp?

Sounds OK to me. If you are worried about heat, you can install a 180* thermostat (I think the factory T-stat is 190) and/or a secondary radiator fan.

Re: Coolant temp?

Thanks, Im new to the olds 98, mines a 1989, just trying to get a feel for the car and the temp everone is running. Pretty impressed with the car so far for a mere $500 lol. By the way, anyone know where the ECT sensor is located, i see two sensors below the tb , a big one and a small one, is it one of these?? Thanks again

Re: Coolant temp?

Yeah, I used to have an 89 Park Avenue (almost identical, as is my current LeSabre) and it was a wonderful car. $500 dollar special that by the time I sold it I probably had 12-13 hundred in it. But I didn't lose much as I got a little over a grand out of 'er

Anyway, here is a link with some pics of the sensors around the TB http://www.lesabret.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=4054

MAF-is the mass air flow sensor, similar to a MAP sensor I believe
IAC-Idle air control valve
CTS-Coolant temperature sensor (brass-colored thing near the IAC)
TPS-Throttle position sensor, is spring loaded, tells the ECM where the throttle is (captain obvious on most of these)

As long as you keep up with maintenace, these cars will go easily go 300k miles or more...it is usually the suspension that gives out before the motor does. ECT sensor....can you elaborate on what it stands for? I don't recall a specific sensor labeled that but I'm sure there is an equivalent.

Re: Coolant temp?

Ahh...engine coolant temp sensor. That would be the equivalent to the Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) that is near the IAC valve. Its a big PITA to get at if you have big hands. It is the brass-looking thing to the left and I think a bit lower than the IAC...it is really hard to see looking for it from the top of the engine.

Edit: Yeah, I've owned five (soon to be six) H and C body GM cars from the mid 80s to the early 90's, so I understand not knowing foriegn sensor lingo very well
