98 Trans Problems?????

I have a 1998 Grand Am FT, and I do not know what is wrong with it (hoping its not the Trans) The car will start but when I put it into drive to go it will not go any where. It was working just fine and then I was stopped at a stop light and when the light turned green the cars engine just reved up, no trans light is on, pleanty of trans fluid, I have asked a lot of people and nobody knows, I was hoping maybe somone out there would know before I have it towed some where, I already spent 300.00 having it towed home from St. Louis to Kansas City, and am trying to keep from spending more. I hope someone out there can help

If the axles are not broken ( unlikely) and you have no reverse or forward and the linkage is connected, the trans is coming out.
