Need help kinda new at this. Plz and Thnx!

Ok ppl I am currently building a 94 hatch for street use but i want it to have some hp i don't really want to so do a whole motor swap (unless it's a better route for less) so i decided to just swap the head out and build the engine. I want to swap a vtec head on form the 94 ex coupe on. Now i've heard from a friend that if i do this i will be pushing alittle more than a stock ex engine, something to do with the compression? Not sure if this is true. I was wanting to port and polish the the head and get a 3 angle valve job and drop a new cam in. So ppl what all do need to maxamize the swap and about how much will i be pushing hp and torque? Any ideas tips or help would be great i am kinda new to this. I only want maybe 300hp max also i was thinking of a turbo what are the pros and con of one?

Search for info on "mini-me" swaps(vtec head on a non-vtec block). Check out the FI section and HMT for tons of info on the turbo subject. Just to give you an idea, I have a friend with civic, D15b with Tuner Toys rods + pistons ~ $350, XS power turbo kit ~ $1000, Neptuned ~ $700, and another $1500 - $2000 or so in other parts needed. Dyno'd at 278hp and 232tq to the wheels @ 14 psi. So that gives you an idea of what it takes to make those numbers. It's a reliable daily driver because of the tuning and relativly low boost.

A boosted D-series engine will put out some good numbers. A good example would be the one given by AudioGuy93DelSol. Many people will say that the cost to turbo a D-series is cheaper than any B, H, or K-series swap and that's true. You'll be able to put down more power than a stock B-series assuming you get a really good tune.
