New Info on JWT Turbo Kit
I dont know if any of you read this but.....
Jim Wolf, Jim Wolf Technology: -Nissan nailed its first serious attempt at an aluminum block engine with the SR20 powerplant that comes in the SE-R Sentra. Owed to the fact that the block is the same as the SR20DET, a turbo version not sold in the United States, it can handle more than 200 hp per liter. We have developed new engine management programs that perfectly match the modifications to the engine, as well as the intended use of the vehicle. Our inventory of SR20 parts includes: ECUs, turbochargers, fuel injection systems, cams, springs, pistons, heads, rods, clutches, motor mounts, and much more. Also, look for our 50-state-legal turbocharger package that has just passed CARB certification and will be in production in 2001. |

They don't say anything about having 99+ ECU's done though.
That's my only real key to doing a turbo system properly.

50 state legal turbo kit for my G20 sounds like a must have to me. But Im kind of gonna need a ECU!

I'm sure they can do the ECU...I had my car used for a prototype ECU from them...but they took it back since it didn't really make much Hp

People have already done turbos with JWT ECUs for 98+ SR20DEs, all that's needed is some wiring change from the 97 ECUs. You can read up on this and other turbo options on the SR20 mailing list archives. From talkling with people who work for/with JWT, it doesn't seem that they're going to do this street legal turbo kit anytime soon.

I know about adapting a 98+ ECU to work with older ECU's but it's not perfect. The 98 200sx ECU is an easy change but you'll have the MIL light on. It's my understanding that adapting a 99+ is a little more involved. I'd rather wait for the real thing. If they won't take the time to make one I'll just get a TEC-II and do it myself. I know it's WAY more expensive but...

is it possible to use an ECU from a JDM car that comes with a SR20DET?? Would that work?

Same sort of problem. Firstly I think the MAF is different. Secondly the wiring is different. My Japanese Apex'i Rev/Speed meter shows incorrect, for US cars, ECU pin outs. So you'd have to still have to modify the wiring harness not to mention get a different MAF. Not plug and play. There may be other issues that I missed as well.

So what is Luke doing? He is dropping a DET in his '99, right? what is he doing to solve this problem?

I think he is using an early sr20de ecu and wiring harness...
if it works, I'll go ahead and get a DET ...he's my (our) guinea pig!!
