service engine soon

i have a problem with my 91 s10 blazer V6 4.3L.
every time im on the freeway for about 5 min or so the service light goes on.
and what makes it worse is that the car loses power.
its been doing this for a long time
when i slow down and try to speed up again i have 2 sumtimes floor it cause it wont react right away.
but if i get off the fwy and turn it off for about 5 min the service light goes off.
sometimes it turns on right away when i get on the fwy.
i maintain it by changing the oil every 3,000 m and i recently changed the sparkplugs and cleaned out the distributor cap

much appreciated
Danny
