drag racing tips

im going to the races on wednesday with my cavy and was wondering what the best way to drag with an automatic is......is there something special you have to do besides smash the gas on green? i know i sound like a noob but the only drag racing i have done is on the streets with my friends and that not that same as doing it on the track. so dont flame me, i just dont want to go out there and fuck up my car or make a fool of myself

Biggest issue is practicing on the " tree", bring the engine again up against the convertor foot on the brake to preload the drivetrain to maybe 1500 rpms, try to launch on the brightest part of the last yellow, takes practice not to foul. Also pump all your tires up to the maxumum pressure to reduce rolling resistance. Look for consistency not necessarily how quick/fast you can go.

Re: drag racing tips

i have an automatic, and i've also notice the whole half half thing..If you just mash it and let it be your car acts retarded...that is the first time I've used that word in a non-deflamatic way...no seriously it goes and goes...and should shift...and looses a bit of power...and keeps going, and then finally it shifts and when it does, the thing acts like it just had an orgasm and throws forward in your seat while it slowly gets back up to speed.....my honest opinion, and what i've adopted is: Do the half gas thing, then when she shifts to 2nd, just f**kin mash it. and when it feels like you're loosing momentium at those 2 seconds before it shifts, let off a bit and it will shift, then mash it again...does that make sense?

Dont you want to set them lower to increase grip? My buddy with his SRT4 took off 2 tenths by dropping th pressure from what it was at for the ride to the track to like 20 PSI IIRC (cant remember what he set the pressure at).

Re: drag racing tips

Yeah, that's what I always thought. But is that really going to effect a stock z24 or any cavalier that's running stock? I'd understand if like there was enough boost or torque off the line, know what I'm saying?

Yes if you have a problem with tire spin, but an automatic Cavalier, I don't think so!
