I have a 1996 ford taurus gl wagon with an AX4N tranny. One of my tranny lines blew, so i replaced it also the fluid and filter. Now i'm having an issue where the vehicle goes 25-30 mph tops and won't upshift.I've completely changed the oil again, and i noticed a burnt smell. recently i changed the TRS and that solved other issues i had but before i consider rebuilding , does anyone know of any other issues that could be going on with this tranny? i hope it's not the clutch packs.Thnx for all help with this

Re: 1996 taurus gl wagon ax4n shift problems
Your best bet would probably be to find a tranny shop with a scan tool to see what the transmission is really doing or not doing.
Do you suspect that the car is stuck in second gear (not as responsive from a dead stop as it used to be)? What happens if you manually shift to "1" then to "2?" Any change? -Rod |

Re: 1996 taurus gl wagon ax4n shift problems
If i shift from 1st to 2nd, it's fine, but no other gears engage, and like i said this all started the time the line blew, is it possible i ran the car too much afterwards it was drained?

If you drive it withouth fluid ... I think the transmission is done.
