Question 85 Celica Tech. Missing and rough idle.

It's an 84 block and head with an 85 crank and intake manifold in an 85 Celica.

It runs. Through our troubleshooting, we pulled #1 plug wire and the engine speed/behavior did not change, but we did get spark from #1 SP wire when we got it close to the plug/block. When pulling #2,3,4 wires it roughed up the idle a lot more. It appears as though all the injectors are firing, but the only tool we have to verify this is our ear on the end of a screwdriver.

Also, the tachometer does not work,

There's a single solid blue wire that came through the firewall with the wiring harness that I can't find a place to plug it in. when the car is running, it is hot (14VDC) and we used an ohmmeter to verify it goes to the connector on the air valve (right under the intake manifold) One end of the plug was .7ohm to our blue wire and the other was .2ohm.

Question Update: 85 Celica Tech. Missing and rough idle.

We got the rough Idle taken care of. it was the #1 injector plug. one of the wires came loose of the connector and pulled out slightly. We salvaged a plug off of the other intake and it works now.

We also did the valve adjustment PM and that quieted up the lifters a LOT.

NEW PROBLEM:

Severe hesitation upon revving, smoking, and backfiring. Removing the connector for the cold start injector did nothing. No vacuum leaks that we can find. (ran an unlit propane torch near all intake gaskets and vacuum hoses.)

No. It has a manual transmission.
