Houston tells Katrina refugees to go home.

Saw an interesting news story on Headline News about residents of Houston Texas being fed up with the sudden increase in crime since they took in refugees from New Orleans last year due to Hurricane Katrina. Overtime costs for the police force hasve greatly increase as well as the burden on other public services. There is growing resentment towards the refugees and the story showed public meetings where people were saying they wanted the refugees to return to where they came from. I tried to find a link to the story on CNN but there wasn't any. I'll post one later if I should find one. In the meantime, I did find this one:http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/08/14/D8JGBLB80.html I know Houston took in a large percentage of these refugees, but I haven't heard any stories from other cities having the same problems as Houston is with theirs.

I would be fed up too. If they're going to take advantage of Texas' hospitality, they shouldn't deserve to stay there.

It was only a matter of time before this happened.

Re: Houston tells Katrina refugees to go home.

Being from Houston I do feel bad for the NO residents who have made Houston their new home and gotten on with their lives.

There was a guy, I'm not sure if it was at this meeting or not, that said if he didn't continue to receive his FEMA money that Houston hasn't even begun to see crime. It'll only get worse.

There is audio, I can find it if anyones interested.

I have mixed feelings. While I do think they should go pick up the peices of their lives as opposed to running. But say some single guy who didn't have much back there got a job and a studio apartment and was told to leave? His he allowed to stay? Or are they trying to kick ALL of the New Orleaners out?

Houston isn't talking about the one's who have moved on with their lives. We're talking about the one's who continue to get money for doing absolutely nothing. The one's who are 3rd or 4th generation unemployed leeches of society.

I saw one guy on the news who said he didn't know what he was gonna do. They showed him faxing his FEMA relief extension papers. They asked him why he didn't work, he said because he has "an injury". That injury my friends, is laziness.

Re: Houston tells Katrina refugees to go home.

I tried to watch the HBO special "When the Levees Broke" but couldn't stand it for more than 15 minutes. While there are some Katrina victims who have decided to pick up the pieces and get on with their lives, most of those featured on the show were unwilling to do anything for themselves except piss and moan about how the government and society should be taking care of them. "Poor me, I collected welfare and did nothing before the hurricane except have babies to get more money from the government, and now I have to work?". Spike Lee should invite them all to live in his mansion and give all his millions to support those free-loaders.

Where is Oprah when we need her most? Maybe she can buy a new car for each of them.

That's precisely the problem. We need to quit giving them something for nothing.
