Welcome to the forum Jesse: I'm not sure what you mean by wiring the front so it's always in 4WD? I had an '88 K1500 Blazer and it had auto front hubs on it. I don't remember any wires to it. If your truck has the auto hubs you'll need to change them out to WARN or?? hubs that you can manually select at each hub if they're engaged or not. Hope this helps............Steve

This site has a product called Perm-Lok that might be what you want.

Re: 88 1500 4wd not working does anybody know how to hard wire the front axle on ?

Your 88 truck probably had the thermal actuator located on the front differential. While in 2wd you should be able to turn the front driveshaft. Put it in 4wd and crawl under to see if you can still turn the driveshaft by hand. If not then you know the transfer case is engaging.

The thermal actuator seldom worked properly after these trucks got older and was replaced with a motor driven actuator. Another option and probably the most reliable is to replace the actuator with the posi-lok mentioned above.

If my memory is correct the 88 blazer referenced by 777stickman above is still the old body style and had the solid front axle. It would be completely different from yours.
