Nobrake lights - 95 Monte Carlo Z34

Hi All,
Brake lights don't function but center light in rear window works. Rear parking lights and flashers are ok so both filaments are intact. Found two switches with three seperate wire pairs that are activated when applying pressure to brake pedal. Disconnected these and installed shorting clips - again only he rear window brake light works.
This vehicle is in excellent condition and I doubt it's a wiring fault but obviously I'm missing something - any help appreciated.....

Okay I know this is a dumb question but have you replaced the bulb itself?

Re: No brake lights - 95 Monte Carlo Z34

I have found that the trouble is located in or near the turn signal switch module. Any slight movement of the turn signal lever with brakes applied clears the problem temporarly.
Does anyone know what it takes to get at this assembly? I guessing that the steering wheel will need to be pulled - any other special tools needed?

You are correct, as the t/sig multifunction switch is a common problem in these cars which will cause your issue. You will need a lock-plate removal tool and a steering wheel puller (both available at Auto-Zone for free in their tool loan program) to get at the switch. If your car has an air bag, be careful and ground yourself while removing it, as static electricity can set off an air bag.

Have a look at your turn signal switch, the rear brake lights go through it.
It's probably loose or broken, try lifting up on the arm near where it goes into the steering column and then the brake lights will come on. Have the switch replaced.
