325i low battery won't start w/ jump

I just picked up a 1992 325i convertible and parked it out back. I went to start it and the car does not turn over. I put a jump on it and still does not turn over. the flashers start flashing but switch was not on, I also recall that I saw the word "code" on the radio display. Naturally I have no owners manual or any codes with this car.

Any idears?

are the battery cables corroided? Does the battery have a good contact?
