How Do I Disarm/Reset Sensitive Alarm

I have a 1998 Subaru Outback with a factory-installed security system. The car alarm has always been a bit kaflooy (the alarm goes off randomly, sometimes I have to press my remote endlessly to get the door unlocked).

Lately, however, things have gotten out of hand. The alarm goes off CONSTANTLY! Every time one of the neighbors uses their remote to unlock/lock their car, my car alarm goes off. The alarm also goes off in the middle of the night, which is – quite understandably -- beginning to upset the neighbors.

How do I reset my alarm to not be so sensitive? Better yet, how do I completely disarm the alarm? Help – before my neighbors kill me!
