Re: 700R4 transmission in OD or Drive?

Wide Open Throttle (flooring it)

As far as I know it doesn't really matter. I believe OD just means that when you are cruising at the same speed it shifts into a "over drive" gear that is supposed to save gas? As far as I understand it there isn't really a difference (I drive a standard it doesn't affect me so.)

Someone else will probably come along sooner or later and explain it fully.

Edit: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ght=over+drive here is the other thread about it.

Re: 700R4 transmission in OD or Drive?

Put it in drive if you're racing but have it in overdrive if you are not.

Overdrive shifts it to the last gear to save gas.. overdrive gives you one gear less for best acceleration. Manual shifting isnt suggested btw on an automatic since the computer will do just fine.

You'll notice a difference even during WOT when you have it in drive or OD.

Actually, you can just leave it in OD all the time. When you step on it, the computer will kick down the tranny for you (in an auto) and shift when it needs to. If you leave the selector in a lower gear, that basically tells the computer not to shift past that gear. So, if you have it in 2nd or 3rd (D) at WOT and your not paying attention, the engine will keep reving in that gear and that could cause major problems.

Some transmission shift kits, as well as some factory transmissions (in 9C1 cars for example) are designed to allow a WOT shift into OD - this is to help top-end speed in the case of the 9C1, for a high speed pursuit.

Remember also that the TH700R4 or 4L60 are mechanical hydraulic shifting transmissions - the only computer hookup drives the TCC. The 4L60E is shift-controlled by the car's PCM.

With apologies to Blue Bowtie,

Terminal F, when grounded, should engage the TCC. A scanner won't tell you anything about a TCC solenoid failure on these.

If you look at the plastic plug near the back of the side on this, in front of the governor cover (the black dome thing), that plastic plug is the TCC wiring harness connector.
