Silverado Braking/ABS Problems

Over the last few days I’ve been noticing a problem concerning the brakes on my 02 Silvy. When I brake during a hard turn (e.g. turning into a parking space). I occasionally get resistance in my brake pedal, almost like my ABS is kicking on. And the truck makes that grinding noise that you usually hear when the ABS kicks on under normal circumstances. But it’s only when I turn the wheel all the way while braking and it only happen occasionally. I don’t get any ABS lights in the dash either. After it's done making noise the pedal reacts normally and I'm able to brake the stop the truck. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? In my old Pontiac Grand Prix I had a sensor on the driver’s side that sometimes got caught in the rim whenever I turned sharply and it kicked on my ABS, but I always got a warning light when that occurred. I’m trying to diagnose the problem before I get under the car, because I’m not supposed to work on vehicles in the dorm parking lot so I want to know what to look for before I jack the vehicle up (and hopefully don’t get caught and fined).

Re: Silverado Braking/ABS Problems

If you are getting no warning lights then I am going to assume it is normal. Your wheel speed sensors are probably seeing a big difference in one wheel compared to the other(due to the hard turn) this would cause the ABS to kick in to bring the wheels to the same speed.

The right way here is to get an abs function scanner on it and and look at comaparative wheel speed sensor inputs particularily below 10, the ft sensors can be troublesome on these trucks, look for one dropping out ahead of the others on the scanner.

Re: Silverado Braking/ABS Problems

Thanks for all the replies guys. Sounds logical to me, however I noticed the truck do it once today while braking at a stoplight (on a straightaway). Does that throw out the idea of the wheel sensors, or should I still give that a try?

Same issue, most likely a wheel speed sensor fooling the abs control into thinking one wheel is locking.
