'91 SE-R JDM swap, won't fire

Posting for a friend ive been helping for the past few days. He has a '91 SE-R, hydrolocked the motor. Got a good deal on a Jap spec SR20DE, 30kmi.

We swapped in the engine, swapped everything different we saw from 1 to the other, exept the EGR stuff.

It will turn over but wont fire. Not even a sputter. Its getting spark on all cylinders, and its getting gas. Double checked fireing order -1-3-4-2- , out of ideas.

All the fuses seem ok, but, since we eliminated the EGR system, there's a few vac hoses that are just flopping in the breeze. Could this be the problem? There is also a harness taped near the cyl. 4 injector that we couldnt find anything to plug into. We were thinking it was a diagnostic port of some kind??

One more thing i should mention. When we first hooked it up, we had the fuel lines swapped (ie. return line where the main line should be and vice-verse). We cought that after a few cranks and fixed it. Could that have damaged anything?

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Is there any way to check if the ECU is fried without removing it?

vacuum hoses could be it but id bet its something else. btw, you want to plug up any loose vacuum hoses or else the engine wont hold vacuum at all.
otherwise check timing, base timing, compression, take your ecu out and get it looked at by a tuning shop, MAF sensor, i doubt your new motor has VTC, but i could be wrong. teh RWD sr20 with VTC was still called the SR20DET while all the FWD sr20s seem to be called the SR20VET, not sure why nissan did it that way. but other than that, id get a FSM for your motor and make sure all the sensors are connected correctly to the ECU.
