When it rains, it pours...
Hello to All,
I am back to ask what the "clanking" noise in my passenger front wheel well could be. I believe it is steering related and only occurs when the car has been at rest for several hours. When I get in my car after work and pull out of my parking space, turning the wheels, I hear a sound that is like two peices of metal hitting together. The outer tie rods are new on both sides and the last time I had the car in the air I did not notice a lot of "play" So what do you think? Is there a way to determine if the ball joints are going? Could my inner tie rod be shot, and there not be any play in the wheel? Please let me know what you think, and as always, Thank you!! Jack

Re: When it rains, it pours...
Sounds like the symptoms of a sticking caliper to me but is there any extra play in the steering now? or is there any extra vibration?

Re: When it rains, it pours...
There is not a lot of play in the steering, it seems normal except for the loud noice. If it is a caliper, what would be the determinating factor?

Re: When it rains, it pours...
You could also try letting the car sit for a few hours. Starting it up, applying the brake and then jacking the car up and checking the wheel on the side that the noise is generally coming from. To make sure that you can spin it freely. If it is very hard to move and there is a raspy metalic sound while it moves. Then you have found the problem.
