Just got Bora...couple of questions

Hey all,

Hi am here in Sydney Aus and just got a 99 Bora V5, metallic Blue with 84Klm on clock, full service history. I've changed from an E36 BMW 318is which I had for 7 yrs of delightful trouble free motoring.

Hoping the Bora is the same and on first impressions I have to say its a nice drive, the V5 is very smooth + responsive, refined, I really like the car. Lots of little technical goodies too, the leather seats, dash, interior etc are all classy.

Anyways have picked up a few gremlins and was hoping someone would be able to help me with:

1. Drivers side electric window.....goes down fine, goes up 1/2 OK then slows down to a snails pace at the top 2/3rd before groaning to a close. If I do this a few times it finally locks up and stops for a while...are the motors prone to failing or is it something else?

2. Rain Sensing wipers; Don't work...the V5 has the rain sensors but the wipers dont come on. Also the intermittent setting does not work either. I feel that these maybe related and that the non functioning rain sensor may be overriding the intermittent settings? Are there any common probs with the rain sensor function?

3. Timing belt: Have been told that timing belts need to be changed religiously on VW's, last service was 80K and no timiming belt change. though someone told me the V5 has a timing chain, is this correct?

4. Are there any other common probs I may need to budget for engine / car wise as the BMW was bulletproof from 70 - 155K's and im hoping for the same.
