Pics of my Eclipse project

This is the '93 Eclipse that I bought for my Wife. After some A/C work, a couple trips to ebay and the wrecking yard, and about 16 hours in my shop for some body work and a paint job she has a nice little car with no payments! Thought you DSM Heads would like to see a resurrection....

Nice. Looks like the paintjob turned out really well. Did you do it yourself?

Re: Pics of my Eclipse project

Thanks guys. I did paint it myself. It looks better in the pics than in person, but I know where every mistake is!

Re: Pics of my Eclipse project

Thanks again guys. The color is the factory (Almaden Red Pearl), but my supplier put too much violet toner in the mix, which I didn't care about since I was painting the whole thing. I also put a tablespoon of X-otic eerie violet pearl in the first coat of clear. The "spray booth" is my boat shop. I just cleaned up and wet down the walls and floors to keep the dust under control. I guess the DSM was my choice. She wants a new VW Rabbit. But $22k vs. $800 right after buying a house? I think you can figure out which won!

That actually does more bad than it does good, unless you let it dry before you painted. It makes the air even more humid which is bad for painting. I used to do the same thing until I found out that it can actually ruin some paint jobs. I talked to a Tech at Dupont and he said something like it puts twice as many water molecules into the air (or something like that, it was awhile ago). You probably won't notice it on many everyday vehicles, but on a good painjob, it can really mess with flash points and times and all that good stuff (and it's good practice )

Re: Pics of my Eclipse project

I have a hygrometer in the shop. Excessive humidity will also screw up gelcoat which is what I usually spray. I let it get down to about 50% before I sprayed, and it was about 35% when I was done. The P-sheet for my materials recommended 50%. Most of the modern acrylics require some humidity to cure. I even know some of the shops here are putting swamp coolers in their booths because it's normally so dry.
