Fuel System Problem

I have a 97 SOHC and the other day I got in it and it started fine but then it went dead. When I finally got it to pull it was really sluggish. This sounded just like a fuel filter problem so I went to get one and I found out that the whole fuel system was pretty much in the fuel pump. I checked the pressure on the rail and it was fine and the fuel pump was still kicking on. I replaced the fuel pump relay also. Finally I replaced the fuel pump and it worked great for about 200 miles and it started doing the same thing. So I replaced the pump again and it is still messed up.

I cant figure out what is wrong with my car because everything is pretty much brand new. It doesnt make any sense. There is a small oil filter looking thing called a fuel accumulator on the fender. It has two "inputs" on top, one goes to the regulator on the fuel pump and the other runs all the way to the high pressure line on the rail, would that be the problem??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I need help!!!!!!!

Re: Fuel System Problem

i sorta had the same problem. fuel pumps are a pain!! sometime u have to go through 2 or 3 before u get a good one. have u tried just putting some fuel system cleaner in your tank. it may be your hoses are clogged. its always something really simple.

Re: Fuel System Problem

So far Ive installed 2 fuel pumps, both in which are having the same problems I had with the stock one. One half of the mechanics Ive talked to say its my ECU and the other half say my Catty is stopped up. Why the hell does the fuel pump not kick on most of the time?????? I hate this crap.

Re: Fuel System Problem

Can you hear the "whirring" sound of the fuel pump when you turn the key to on (not start.) I don't even know if the 97s do this, though, because I have a 95. If you hear the whirring, then you know the pump is at least pretending to work.

Re: Fuel System Problem

All neons do it, but just because you hear the pump prime doens't mean its working correctly.

Re: Fuel System Problem

So I spent over 400 just to find out that the O2 sensor after the cat was bad. Thanks for all your advice. At least now I have a few new parts.
