Questions about Fiero

I'm scouting a new project car so

1. How's the handling compared to F-bodies and/or corvettes?

2. Do you actually like your Fiero interiors?

I have both (Camaros and a Fiero). The Fiero is a tiny, nimble little car. It's like driving a go kart. I'll hop back in one of my Camaros and it feels like a boat. The Fiero is almost a 'badge of honor' for me. Not that it's a cool car - but that it's a goofy car, and it takes skill to keep it running and fully functional.

The interior is cheap 1980s. The dash is OK, but the armrest/console on them sucks. I replaced my seats with Camaro seats (simple bolt in). I have 3 Fieros - all 3 were non running parts cars. I built 1 good one out of them (I literally pulled it from a field in north Texas). One had a decent interior and good transmission, one had a good body, and one was so cheap I couldn't pass it up. I've needed parts from all 3 cars. Shocks, brake calipers, wiper motor, emergency brake cables, headlight motors, A/C parts, under-car coolant tubes, electrical wiring and relays, etc. But at this point everything works and it starts every time I turn the key.

There's a saying: when you buy one, you don't become a Fiero owner, you become a Fiero mechanic.

They're not race cars. You won't put a 400+ horsepower motor in it and go very far (you'll break transverse transmissions, CV joints, etc). But, they're zippy little commuter cars, weird enough that people will talk with you and you can laugh a little about ("I remember those"... "the engine's in the trunk?"... "don't those catch fire?"), and that's why I like mine.

There's gotta be some more powerful transverse transmissions out there. I wanted to look for a project fiero, buy one that works like a V6 and test it out before I even thought of a V8 swap. but I'm interested in this
Since I wanted a vette and a midengine car, umm yeah lol

The '88's handle the best. Unfortunatly they did away with the Fiero after they finally got the suspension right.

I had an '85 Camaro and I absolutely hate those huge dashboards. I think the Fiero's interior is much more attractive and fits the driver like a glove. It's better if you can get a GT or special edition Fiero with the auxillary gauge package (the oil pressure and voltage gauge over the center radio/vents tower). Unfortunatly finding a project Fiero needing very little interior restoration will be tough as most will be beat by sun damage over the years.

Check out V8 Archie at www.V8archie.com I have one Fiero with a ZZ4 5.7 L V8 and it is scary fast.

Another Fiero I own is stock and is the most fun to drive with its five speed. I've owned the car since new and it has been kept alive and running with lots of maintenance over the past 19 years. But any car in 20 years needs lots of maintenance.
