2001 cvpi ?'s

Hi All, I have a friend that is asking how much of a job is exhaust manifold gaskets on an 01 cvpi and if anyone might have a quick schematic. Next question is I've heard a lot recently about sea foam and I'm curious if anyone has tried using it on a high mileage unit and has it helped out at all? I appreciate your help.

Hey Kev. The exhaust manifolds are quite a large job due to the fact some of the studs will probably break. If they break, you need to drill them out. Make sure you drill in the center and do not go too deep as you will drill through the head and oil will run out as fast as you can pour it it. It is a lot easier on a lift, ut I guess you can do it on jackstands. The converters need to come off, all the exaust bolts and possibly the motor mounts loosened to have clearance to remove the maniflod. Loosening the mounts is dependant upon the status of old mounts. If old mounts are worn out, there may not be enough clearance.

As for Seafoam, I have never used it but have heard a lot of good things about it. Good luck.

BostonKey,, I have a 97 CV-P71, and a lot of us guys over on Crown.net use sea foam to get rid of carbon in the engine,, the best way we have found to use it is to use your pvc valve hose to suck into the engine,, then let the engine set( not running) for 20 to 30 minutes,, then start it up and let it fast idle.. It does a good job,, you may want to do it a couple times to clean out the engine,,, we put one in the gas tank, and then run one thru the engine..
