Steering Wheel radio controls 01 impala

I have a 2001 Impala LS. The steering wheel radio controls all of a sudden stopeed working. I connot seem to locate a fuse for them, is there one? If not, where is the next place I should look to fix this problem. The radio itself works fine as do all its' functions and the cruise control button and lights also work (steering wheel). Thanks

Re: Steering Wheel radio controls 01 impala

Hello peeps,
For your steering wheel control problem, if relays, and also fuses are OK, there is only one plug inside the steering wheel itself that works all features of the controls from radio to cruise control....now, since the cruise is working then I would say look just under the steering wheel itself and possibly behind the radio as there are 2 separate connectors that might have just come unplugged.....hope that helps and best of luck....

Tazman9344 is right, it's only 2 wires for the radio controls. The button that is pressed it identified by a resistance value, that's it.

Re: Steering Wheel radio controls 01 impala

I had the same problem recently on my 03 Silverado. Buttons on the steering wheel stopped working and the The "Service Air Bag" bag message came on in the DIC... I tracked it down to a bad SIR Coil - also known as a Clock Spring. The SIR coil is a spiral wound flex circuit housed in a plastic case under the center of the steering wheel - it passes connections from the moving wheel to the stationary column. I checked Alldadta for my 04 Impala and it also has the clock spring (SIR Coil) .. You should be able to check your radio button circuit at the radio end of the harness. If it doesn't check out correctly and all the connections are solid, it could be the SIR Coil .. The part for my truck included the whole steering wheel harness - part cost was $230 (list $300). Alldata lists the price the 04 Impala at $197 (list).
