97 2.4 alternator / battery wiring

I messed up really good. I attempted to take alternator off of the car with the battery connected. I was disconnecting the positive connection when the wrench contacted the head--sparks and smoke.

The wire from the alternator cable is burnt up I need to know how to reconnect the alternator to the battery. I am going to guess its not a direct connection.

also I started the car-sans no alternator and it seemed run fine-except when I tried to use the blinker the wipers started--did I fry something else? I had the plug connector disconnected
