92 caravan LIMP MODE Please Help

The lastest....

When I get up in the AM and leave for work the van works perfect.........But
When I leave after work the van will not come out of LIMP mode no matter what I do
When I start the van at work the tranny will not go into drive for a sec than it goes into LIMP MODE and no matter how many
times I restart it the dam thing stays in LIMP, but Like i said in the morning it work perfect....no LIMP at all
WEIRD

Output sensor changed
all wiring checked as far as i cold I need to check pin to pin but i have no numbers for plugs

Fluid is up and the right stuff
tranny replaced before i got the van and has about 10,000 on it

this is driving me nuts

Re: 92 caravan LIMP MODE Please Help

It is going into limp mode because something is wrong with the transmission.

Re: 92 caravan LIMP MODE Please Help

I would guess that the Transmission Control Module is malfunctioning and it only occurs on a warm engine becuase something is shorting out or failing when she warms up. I had a similar issue with my '98 Neon and it was a crankshaft position sensor that would only code when the engine got up to temperature. Call Auto Zone and see if they can code this year and model (it is free).

If it is going into limp/failsafe mode it will have a code set.
You need to pull codes to to see what direction to go.
Try the key off to on 3 times and see if it fashes a code if so count the long and short flashes and post back flashes.
They have a lot of speed sensers and output speed sensor and wiring problems.
Is the Speed odometer working good?
What is the mileage and transmission service history?
How is the fluid condition and fluid level?
What kind of fluid does it have in it?

Re: 92 caravan LIMP MODE Please Help

The key off and on is for the engine codes only
and The tranny was rebuilt or replaced before i got the van a few months ago about 10,000 kms ago
The tranny fluid is red and not burnt Full and is the recomended fulid type for the van
And I have changed the output sensor 2 weeks ago it worked perfect for 2 days after that one

I am going to try the input (speed) sensor next
T

Sorry speedo work fine after the output sensor was changed

Re: 92 caravan LIMP MODE Please Help

I had a transmission control module go bad on me. It took me almost three months to figure it out. I replaced both speed sensorsand the shift pack and worked great for 3 weeks, then it started going into limp mode almost everyday. I finally went to a auto salvage and they sold me a used module for $75. Works great after the change.

Time to get into transmission codes and transmission data with a transmission capable scanner and find out what is going on.
The code will point to the problem.
You may throw parts at it for a year and never fix it.
