2003 Accord O2 sensor problem
The car has a code PO14102. The check engine light comes on for a while and days later it goes off. The cycle repeats itself in a few days. Has anyone else had a similar problem? The car has only 19k and is just past the 3 year warranty.

I guess it would help if I knew what that code indicates...my generic OBD II code finder doesn't recognize it....

Anyway, just outside warrantee? They have 100,000 mile emissions compliance warrantee. It's Honda's problem...

Didn't mean to steer you wrong...it may be 8/80,000 on yours...I'd still ask...most times they are very good about covering emissions issues...

Re: 2003 Accord O2 sensor problem
Yeah double check that code, because it's 1 number too long. Also you do know that not every check engine light means O2 sensor right?
And double check your warranty as jeff said as well. If it's not covered, let us know the code and then we can help.

Re: 2003 Accord O2 sensor problem
Thanks for the advice guys. I got the code from the owner of the car who got it from an auto parts store clerk. I will get the correct code myself. I do know that not every check engine light indicates an O2 sensor failure. If you check my stats, you will see that I 've been a member of this terrific site since Jan 2005'. How could I be a member of this site and not learn anything? (Just kidding, actually I 've been in the automotive/heavy equipment field for over 30 years.) I apologize if I sound like a windy old fart.

Re: 2003 Accord O2 sensor problem
no not at all. You just mentioned the o2 sensor, so I wasn't sure. For some reason, and I will never know why, many people have the misconception that a check engine light means an o2 sensor is bad. I've never understood where that came from, but just wanted to make sure. Anyway, autozone is good, in that htey will scan the code for free, but personally I would say don't take any advice they give at the store. Of the 10 or so times I've used them for scanning codes, only once did they guy have a clue about what he was talking about. The other 9 were taking wild shots in the dark and/or telling me to close my gas cap and forget about it. lol

I'm alot short this week. I got a few sticks of gum, 47 cents, some pocket lint, a key to a dodge caravan we sold in 97, and a lot of unpaid bills...what would you prefer? Interesting to know though, as I said, I never knew why, and now when I'm on final Jeopardy some day...I will

I found the code PO141. It looks like there are problems with the #2 02 sensor heater circuit. I hope the dealer will help out the owner. These sensors can get pricey. Thanks again for your help guys.

Re: 2003 Accord O2 sensor problem
Hi Guys,
FYI The owner took the car to the dealer and the service writer claimed that the sensors are not covered past the basic warranty. The writer also stated that only the cat.con. is covered. They replaced the rear O2 sensor for about $270, parts and labor. Since the problem was pin pointed earlier they waived the $100 diagnostic fee. I asked the owner to save the old part but I did not get in touch until after the repair was done. |
