Problems with locks /

I am new to this forum , but have been browsing abit to see if I can help with some things . I see quite a few requests for help with the locks on these babies . Since I am a Locksmith I tend to gravate to these problems . I am not an expert on car locks , but have some experience just the same .

First most ignition problems are caused by sticking or worn tumblers . The ignition locks use a dual locking system , Tumblers and something called a sidebar. Both must operate properly for the lock to turn. The newer versions no longer contain the sidebar in an effort to reduce the problem. If you notice your ignition is sticky , you should remove the lock and take it to the dealer or a locksmith and have it re-keyed . There is a poke hole on the under side of the steering columun , turn your key to the on postion and insert something into the poke hole to press the retainer , the lock will pull out. If the lock has failed competely , some locksmiths can remove the lock without destroying it and re-key or replace it with an aftermarket lock which has no sidebar. Kevin / N.S.
