Transmission replacement...rebuild

Well, I just had my radiator replaced, and trans flushed, and still have problems shifting from 2nd to 3rd. When hooked up to a trans computer, it shows it shifting and they can shift it that way, but it is not physically shifting into 3rd!

How hard is it to drop the trans? I am also looking for a used one to replace it... What is the average price you all have found for replacement?

I have a 2000 Malibu 3.1L.

How do you mean that they can shift the trans with the Tech II? Does it actually shift when forced by the computer, or does it indicate that it has shifted but not actually shifted ranges?

Well, yes, the computer says it is shifting, at least the solinoid is indicating it is shifting. My shop guy said he would need to drop the trans and he would send it to a shop that does his a/trans work, and he thought it could be the bands worn bad. I trust this guy with any car. He just replaced my radiator, found a used one in great shape for $25. And that is what he charged me.
