Bigger Motor

I have heard that GM sold the Fiero V6 motor in other cars, but with larger displacement, such as 3.4L. Is this true. Is there a motor out there that is a direct bolt in to the Fiero? I have heard that you can take the 170HP 3.4L V6 longblock from like a Beretta or Corsica, put your Fiero intake manifold on, bolt it right up to the stock transmission, plug in all your stock accessorys, etc., and have stock reliability but bigger HP and TQ.

So baisically my question is, is there another V6 with the same outside dimensions and motor mounts as the 2.8L, and in what car would I find it?

Re: Bigger Motor

Was I too vague? I am talking about the 3.1-4.1L motors from like El Caminos, Regals, FWD midsize gm cars. I am looking for a direct drop in motor that is junk yard findable. Almost like have a 305 Iroc camaro and finding a 350 from a malibu and putting it in. Same motor externally so all the mounts and accessorys fit as if from the factory. But internally the displacement is bigger.

Re: Bigger Motor

I did some research and according to West Coast Fiero the 3.4L DOHC from an Oldsmobile or similar, and a 3.4L Pushrod from an up to 1995 Camaro are both direct drop ins. According to their price lists, the DOHC swap cost less. Does this mean it it easier? Which swap it the easiest? Also what cars can I pull a motor from that would fit, i.e. which GM cars were offered with the DOHC 3.4 and which cars came with the pushrod 3.4?

Re: Bigger Motor

The 3.4 L out a 90s Camaro/Firebird is a direct bolt on. You need to move the starter and the Fiero Intake can be put on to the engine. The Fiero ECM will run the engine.

The DOHC is not a direct drop in. It is a high revving engine that will put out 200+ HP and makes a real screamer. The DOHC is lots of work with wiring work and you'll need the ECM from a doner car. The 3.4 DOHC is a larger engine so is wedged in the Fiero engine bay.
