92 Eclipse GS help plz

ok, ive got a 92 Eclipse GS, and ive been thinking about doing some upgrading to it, but it's got 122K miles. Will it fall apart if I try to boost up the horses? Or am I ok for a while?

Re: 92 Eclipse GS help plz

It all depends on how its been taken care of for the last 122k miles. If you wanna up the power then it will obviously be seeing more abuse than its seen the last 122k miles... You could have a perfectly appearing 10k mile car and have many problems with it if its been extremely beat on for that first 10k miles... Or, you could have a 200k mile car thats in perfect shape and will actually take the abuse of giving it more power. My grandpa had an 87 Grand Marquis and he took extreme care of it since he bought it brand new. The car currently has almost 300k miles on it and the only major problem its had is a little rust hole that developed in the gas tank. We fixed it and its still running just as strong as the day it was bought... Just throwing out a few examples to make this subject a little more clearing for all the other people who are gonna post threads like this in the future as well. If you don't know the history of the car then I would say its a little bit of a gamble in upping the power without seeing any problems... Just my 2 cents though. It could just as well be perfectly fine and able to take the extra power.

Oh yeah, and welcome to Automotive Forums.

Re: 92 Eclipse GS help plz

I would say do all the mantenance things first and you'll be fine. Without adding a turbo or anything like that you won't make too much more power so its not like its going to be anything drastic. Just get your t-belt changed, your oil changed, water pump and stuff like that and you'll be sitting pretty.... Isn't it time to get those things changed anyways
