Went horse-back riding for the first time.
Well this weekend i went horse back riding, and the giude even let me gallop with the horse (his name was Justin). I was just wondering who has done it, and did you enjoy it? I loved it, and will deffinately go again.
PS: i tried to post this in the "sports" section but there was no section for it. Maybe there should be. |

Re: Went horse-back riding for the first time.
I have also been horseback riding a couple times before. More of trail riding then open range or whatever you want to call it. I thought it was pretty fun but it sure does a number on the body after awhile of riding lol

Re: Went horse-back riding for the first time.
I have been horseback riding numerous times. I even went to a Girl Scout Horseback Camp when I was in middle school. I hate riding horses, though. I can't put a finger on why I hate it (could be that during the camp my horse stood on my foot, or the fact my brother's horse once bit my horse and sent it rearing on a trail ride) but I dread when people say "Let's go horseback riding!"

Re: Went horse-back riding for the first time.
I've been bucked off a pony when I was 9, stepped on by horses and ponies, sneezed on by a horse (something everyone must experience at least once before they die)...I still like horses and I'd love to go riding some time.

Re: Went horse-back riding for the first time.
Horses are the fucking shit. Fun to ride as long as they obey and cooperate, and even fun when they don't. I've been bucked off and kicked but hey, you just need to know the animal. I use to work with horses too and absolutely loved it.

Re: Went horse-back riding for the first time.
That's funny - I took my girlfriend horseback riding last Sunday. She'd been nagging me for years to take her and we happened to drive by a ranch the weekend before, so what the hell right...
My crotch is still sore from Sunday's ride (and its Wed today). This was well over a 1hr trial we did but there were at 4 or 5 points where the turrain went downhill, over a stream, or up a pretty freakin steep hill. We both liked it but let me let you it was pretty nerve racking ride at times. My g/f and I were both at the very end of the pack, so we couldn't hear the trail leaders comments very good. It wasn't until halfway into the ride when we learned to stand up in the stirups to get your ass off the saddle. Up until then we were bouncing up and down on the saddle every time the animals trotted. I had a particularly wild day because my horse was apparantley a former chariot racing fellow. I was the last in line so he'd purposely slow down going into or up a hill so he could then bolt to catch up. And I ain't talking galloping or whatever - this fellow would start to jog pretty quick and then F'in run full tilt. I'd be pulling back the reins yelling "whoh" the whole time then just hang on for dear life lol. Ya when he decided to jump over the stream instead of walking through it I still hadn't known to stand or prop your self up in the stirup, so my ass was in mid-air when we jumped and luckily for me came back down in the saddle. But it was fun. |

Re: Went horse-back riding for the first time.
Yes...I've been and I never really enjoy it. My best friend has like 4 or 5 horses and we ride them every now and then and this lady I work with give horseback riding lessons and I ride there too sometimes. But horses really piss me off! I've gotten bucked off like 6 times and almost stepped on afterwards...I just can't read their body language like I can with dogs

Re: Went horse-back riding for the first time.
I have been lucky enough to never hit the dirt. But getting kicked, I have lost count a long time ago. Learning their body language isn't an easy thing to do. It kind of has to be in you naturally.

Re: Went horse-back riding for the first time.
Every time I hear someone say 'horseback riding' I think of the movie 'the New Guy' with Eliza Dushku and how she falls off the horse at the very end of the credits. Funny funny... but man, she's hot.
But on topic, I live in San Francisco and I don't know of anywhere that would provide horseback riding lessons. Sounds fun but unfortunately, no opportunity here for me to take advantage of. |

Re: Went horse-back riding for the first time.
I grew up in west Texas. (Abiline). Plenty or room to ride. Just clear it with the neighbors first if you plan on going through their property. No one ever objected. A few hundred acres then become a few thousand. Camp out etc. Just bring a .22 to kill snakes or rabits (for supper). A .303 rifle or more powerful incase you come across some wild boar. My advice...go around them preferably. My favorite horse is the Mustang. The horse will not tire, doesn't need shoes, or green grass or much water. Spirited but really gentle provided they like you. The biggest horse I've ridden was a red Belgium Draft...he was HUGE!!!
